"Dial-Up Networking could not negotiate a compatible
set of network protocols you specified in the Server Type settings.
Check your network configuration in the Control Panel then try the connection again."
This is a fairly common problem in Windows95 Dial-Up Networking for which Microsoft has
net yet posted a definitive solution. Here are some possible causes and
solutions for this problem:
1.Cause: In your Dial-Up Networking connectoid, you have selected a different
network protocol than the designated in the script file you are using.
Solution: Match the Dial-Up Networking connection setting for Dial-Up server to that
designated the script file:
1.Double-click on My Computer, then Dial-Up Networking, then right-click on the
"Chain O' Lakes Internet" connectoid and select Properties.
2.Click on Server Type, then note what you have selected in the "Type of Dial-Up
Server" setting (it should either be PPP or SLIP).
3.Close out of your Dial-Up Networking screens.
4.From the Start menu, select Programs, then Accessories, then Dial-Up Scripting Tool.
5.Highlight the Chain O' Lakes entry (or the name of the icon you use to dial in).
2.Cause: The Dial-Up Neworking connectoid is damaged.
Solution: Delete the corrupt connectoid and re-create it:
1.Go to Start | Programs | Accessories | Dial-Up Networking
2.Right-click on the "Chain O' Lakes Internet" connectoid and select
"Delete" from the drop-down menu.
3.Double-click "Make New Connection" to create a new connectoid.
3.Cause: The Dial-Up Adapter or TCP/IP line protocol is damaged
Solution Reinstall Dial-Up Adapter and TCP/IP in the Network control panel: Note: This may
require you to insert your Windows95 CD
1.Go to Start | Settings | Control Panel | Network
2.Remove each network component by selecting the component and then clicking
"Remove".
3.Close the Network control panel and restart the computer when prompted.
4.After restart: Go to Start | Settings | Control Panel | Network
5.Add Dial-Up Adapter and then TCP/IP protocol.
5.Cause: Dial-Up Networking is damaged
Solution: Reinstall Dial-Up Networking: Note: This may require you to insert your
Windows95 CD
1.Go to Start | Settings | Control Panel | Add/Remove Programs | Windows Setup tab
2.Clear the check mark by "Communications".
3.Click Apply and then OK
4.Restart the computer
5.Go to Start | Settings | Control Panel | Add/Remove Programs | Windows Setup tab
6.Replace the check mark by "Communications".
7.Click Apply and then OK
8.Restart the Computer

and reinstalling the complete network setup. Do this in the following order: Note:

1.Delete all Dial-Up Networking connectoids
2.Remove all components listed in the Network control panel
3.Uninstall Dial-Up Networking in the Add/Remove Programs control panel
4.Restart the machine
5.Reinstall the above items in the reverse order (ie. starting with reinstalling Dial-Up
Networking
6.Restart the machine
7.USR 56K X2 Modems Causing: unable to negotiate a
compatible set of network protocols specified in network setting in the control panel
1.Go to Start | Programs | Accessories | Dial-Up Networking
2.Right-click on the "Chain O' Lakes Internet" connectoid, click properties.
3.click on the configure button and then the properties button
4.click on connection and the advanced button
5.Insert the init string of S15=128, in the extra setting box and OK out.
