We are a post-Vatican II, active parish with endless opportunities for lay leadership. Our leadership consists of Father James Gardiner, our sacramental minister, and Christy Nelson who creatively offers a family formation program. Together, with the pastoral and finance councils, the liturgy, education, Pax Christi and social concerns commissions, they work to set the agenda for parish life.

We are located on M-88 just north of the village of Bellaire, in the midst of a great tourist area: fishing, swimming, boating and hiking during the summer; cross country and down hill skiing, snowmobiling, and ice fishing during the winter. Within our parish boundary one can find spectacular resorts, exquisite dining, country and city life and breathtaking nature sights during all four seasons of the year.

Now in our 105th year, St. Luke Parish began when Grand Rapids Bishop Henry Ritchter, DD, purchased seven lots in the village of Bellaire on July 17, 1897. In 1921, there was a devastating fire in the village which destroyed most of the main street, and our church burned to the ground. It was then that we moved the unused church from Atwood to Cayuga Street in Bellaire. This building was used as our church until 1959, when 20 acres of land was purchased on the present site at 3088 S. M-88, and the present church was completed and dedicated on July 31, 1960.  A church renovation took place in the fall of 1991 and we added a gathering space, social hall, kitchen and offices in 1998.

We now have all the physical space we need to be of service to the parish and our local communities.  New programs and goals are set each year by our pastoral and finance councils.
