Caring for the Elderly

Help them slay the demons of growing old:
Loneliness
Helplessness
Boredom

Slaying Loneliness
Let them share deep personal feelings.
Let them tell their story.
Don’t interrupt.
Don’t Judge.
Just LISTEN.
Bring Children, Animals, Plants into relationship.
Be Companion, not just visitor,
Be Friend, not just friendly.
Love them.

Slaying Helplessness
Don’t only care for them, Let them Care for others.
Balance Giving and Receiving Care.
Let them Care for Family, Animals, Plants, Staff, Patients.

Slaying Boredom
Create and Welcome Spontaneity.
Bring the Unexpected and Unpredictable.
Avoid ruts.
Meaningless activity corrodes Spirit.
Give them meaningful tasks.
Avoid enslavement to medical practice.
Make medical treatment the servant, not master.
Let them help with Decision-making.
They must keep growing.
Share each others’ Wisdom.

Really Caring Will Slay the Demons and all will Grow in Love.
