| File Sharing, Identity Theft and More.. |
||||
| The following article was originally posted by tech writer Denise Richardson, but reiterates a very real and scary threat that many people run into when using file sharing programs. There are legitimate and safe reasons to use file sharing programs, but people need to properly educate themselves to protect their virtual property. I strongly urge you to read on and watch the following movie clip courtesy of NBC: “There are some 200+ popular file sharing programs on the internet, that may be providing access to your computer and your personal information to thieves across the world -without your knowledge. Thieves love to use file sharing programs, such as the ones many, including kids, use to download music. Many of these file sharing programs have little to no security to keep criminals away from personal files stored on your computer. Thieves have figured out that finding access to your life, including, tax returns, resumes, and bank account information is as simple as doing a Google search.” “Watch the below NBC news video for more info on the dangers of using certain file sharing programs. When NBC did their own search, they easily found access to over 150,000 tax returns, nearly 26,000 student loan applications and more than 600,000 credit reports stored on unsuspecting consumer computers. NBC also noted that sites such as YouTube, iTunes and personal photo sharing websites are not file sharing programs. But, the most popular file sharing program, Lime Wire is and now urges consumers to download their latest 5.0 program, that now restricts access to personal files. Identity theft protection expert and CEO of LifeLock Todd Davis likened having those file sharing software programs on your computer to leaving the keys in an unlocked car ... with the windows down.” Broadband Recommended to view the video below "As for the programs kids use download and share music, you might want to consider deleting them -or at the least, make sure they are not using file sharing programs on a computer that contains your family's personal identifying information.” |

| COLI Wireless Expansion |
||||
Continuously expanding our wireless coverage, we are pleased to announce new expanded service in the South Boardman / Lodi area as well as some new overlapping coverage along Central Lake and Ellsworth areas. We are very excited about the prospect of expansion in these areas because it will help us to close the gap of expansion of our existing dial-up base. Once again, testing for our high-speed wireless service always has been and will continue to be a free service so long as your criteria matches that on our coverage maps (http://www.torchlake.com/default.aspx?pagemain=wireless&Wireless=wirelessmaps/Totalcoverage). Give us a call today and we would happily be able to check eligibility for you. If you feel like we are not expanding to your area fast enough, it is
not because we are ignoring you, it is because we need a line of sight
location to one of our existing towers, either from your location, or
from a nearby location where a repeater could be placed. If you know of
a good location for a repeater, that is high and free of trees, contact
us and we will be happy to take a look to see if it fits our criteria
for a repeater. We do want to serve everyone, but constructing new towers
under today’s zoning rules, is not feasible, for the most part,
due to the extra cost the zoning rules force upon us. To avoid this, we
try to use existing structures, houses, tv antenna towers, silos, or just
a high hill with a good view whenever possible. |
