March 18, 2008 Newsletter We still need two volunteers to accompany Quint White to the 11E2 District Convention April 25th to April 27th in West Branch. A finance committee will be held in the near future to discuss additional activities, primarily in the Bellaire area, which we could support with financial aid and/or sweat equity. Eldon McPherson will investigate the costs of doing a professional audit. “Thank You” letters were received from recipients of our recent donations, i.e.: Michigan Eye Bank $450 Six - $20 gift cards from Glen’s Market Bellaire Family Alliance $300 Lion’s Bear Lake Camp $350 American Diabetes Association $360 Miss Bellaire Scholarship $250 D.A.R.E. program $200 Grass River Natural Area $250 Commission on Aging $500 for new Meals on Wheels truck Treasurers Report: General Account $8251.18 Administrative Account $2678.91 Lions Shreve and Somers are working with the Bellaire Chamber of Commerce and other local community groups to work out the details of a planned “Heritage Week” scheduled for August 10th to the 15th . The Lion Golf Outing is planned for August 13th at Centennial Farms Golf Course. The Grand Traverse Band of Ottawa and Chippewa Indians asked Lions to resubmit our request for funds in June 2008, since grant monies for the current fiscal year have been depleted. Don Lukins reports he will working with the State Department of Health who welcome our participation in a program focusing on child sight screening for six month old through two year old kids. Lions International reports the goal for the campaign Sight First program has been exceeded, i.e. $150 million goal vs. $157.9 million achieved. Our March 13th meeting had ten Lions who had not gone south or west for the winter. We look forward to your return in the early Spring – we hope. The 11E2 District Governor, Florence Kelpinski and her husband Al aka “Cue-Ball”, were our guests. The DG congratulated our Club for it’s accomplishments and the financial support given to International, State and District projects. Bellaire Lion Club Meetings/Events: No meeting held March 27th Starting in April we return to two meetings a month. April 2nd from 11 AM to 7 PM at the local Secretary of State office distributing eye/organ literature along with fellow Lions from Central Lake. April 10th Meadow Brook at 5:00 the Board meeting and at 6:30 our Regular meeting with Speaker Sam Cataldo. April 24th Meadow Brook at 6:30 our Regular Meeting with a Speaker on “Welcome Home”. The 11E2 Zone Meeting will occur on the 24th through the 27th of April. Lion Keith Shreve |
